Dormant Stage

Fri, 11 Jun 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Guest:My bulb collection is getting to be too much work for me. I try to share with friends and neighbors, but they are not interested in the dormant stage some plants require. I live in the North Carolina foothills zone 7. We rarely have temperatures as low as zone chart indicates. I have a brick front porch, somewhat protected by roof overhang. The sun sets on this side of house and receives full afternoon sun. The brick absorbs some warmth. I have a foundation bed planted along here. Should I chance leaving calla lilies and Hymenocallis narcissiflora in the ground over the winter, if well mulched?

Answer By The Flower Expert: These calla lilies and Hymenocallis narcissiflora flowering bulbs should be dug in early fall and stored over winter for replanting the following spring.

Beautiful Arrangement Of Flowers

By Michael: Hello, I hope you can help me. I need to make a beautiful arrangement of flowers but they all need to be scent free...!!! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Answer By The Flower Expert:I have heard that Mona lavender flower has no fragrance. Though its a fact, flowers with no scent can still cause allergies. Even flowers without scent produce and spread their pollen which can cause allergies. The flowers without scent are a difficult one. Instead of flowers, you can have nonscented foliage of ferns, horsetail, cattails.
