By Malcolm and Marie: The Jacaranda trees we planted nine years ago have never produced blooms, they produce a healthy leaf one tree looks stronger than the other. Do you have any advice we live in the western Algarve surrounded by pine trees and mimosa trees.
Gardeners do not seem to have any knowledge here, yet the Jacaranda flourishes by the side of the road in dusty dry areas with no attention. We welcome any advice.
Answer By The Flower Expert: Jacaranda trees will flower only when they are past 5 years old.
They need to have consistent moist soil in order to flourish. Also, they require a lot of sun.
The amount of flowers produced each year is dependant on the warmth of the summer.
Jacaranda do not tolerate frost.
In my view, the trees non blooming nature can be because they are overshadowed by other trees, as well as they are surrounded by pine and mimosa trees. Or Frost might be the culprit.
