By Ken Shapley: Hi, my mother has found a beautiful wite and pink tulip with seven full heads on a single stem. She is wondering if this maybe of interest to bulb growers? Can it be reproduced or is this not possible? Basically can she sell it is the question I think she is asking.
Answer By The Flower Expert: Generally, Yes, there are some varieties in Tulips, where there are multi flowers 4-7 flowers per stem. Like, heweri tulip, a multi headed with 2-3 flowers per stem, native of Iraq with a glowing yellow and a red flush on the outside petals. And Tulip Candy Club a violet flush and edges, 4-5 per stem brilliantly colored large flowers, which are tall, bunch flowering tulips.
So, in my view, yours might be some variety like this one, and ofcourse this would be of some interest to bulb growers.
By Dorothy: I was wondering if you could settle an argument for me. I have Heather in my garden. They are now small plants with little purple/pink flowers on them which are finishing up now. Is Heather considered a bush, shrub, plant, etc. and what is the difference between the three. It is important for me to know this. I have seen them mentioned as different things.
Answer By The Flower Expert: Trees are woody plants more than 6 m tall, with a dominant stem, or trunk, and a definite crown shape. Generally, any nonflowering and flowering plants are called as plants. IF they are huge they would be called as trees, and if they are small (a few meters in length,) they would be called as shrubs. If these shrubs have a medicinal value they would be termed as herbs.
So, here Heathers are called as shrubs (generally they are 2-3 feet), as they are less than 5-6 meters in height.

So many wonderful home- and gardening-related events are coming up, I can't squeeze them all into the At Home section, not to mention my own calendar. The national Garden Conservancy's Open Days Program is in full swing, with nine private gardens in Hartford and Litchfield counties open to the public this weekend.

Tucked away on Dothan Road lies the home and gardens of Jim and Mary Netherton. For much of the year the yard is a green oasis, but in summer it is transformed into a stunning rainbow of color. A sign at the end of the driveway reads ?Peace on Earth Gardens,? but to a flower lover it is truly daylily heaven.

Despite a dearth of green, Salt Lake City officials want to see the capital bloom. City Council members, fearing that blossom-less patches and forsaken parks could project a shabby image, are poised to buck Mayor Ralph Becker and keep flowers funded -- even in a prickly budget year.
