By Martha:I have had beautiful daffodils and tulips for many years, but this year a lot of the buds are drying up and turning brown before they open. Some of the bulbs are old, while others are only one or two years old. Can someone help me? Do I need to dig them all up and discard them?
Answer By The Flower Expert: I think, it is better to throw off the old bulbs and keep the younger bulbs. This is because of a condition called "bud blast" that can abort bulb flowers. One of the cause may be overcrowding. You can just dig up your bulbs later in spring and divide them before replanting.
By Guest: Can I store my hyacinth bulbs over the summer in a bag until Fall planting?
Answer By The Flower Expert: Let the Hyacinth foliage wilt down and then clearing the bulbs store it. The best way to store them is in a mesh bag or paper bag with holes that permit ventilation. Keep it in a cool dry place until fall, then plant it again.
