Wed, 28 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Will: Can you please tell me what plant this is, i have just moved into a new property and i have 4 of them and was wondering if i could sell them?

Soaptree Yucca, is also known by many more names such as Palma Pita, Dagger Plant, or just plain old Yucca.

Oriental Pink Heart Lily

Wed, 28 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Lisa Blything: Oriental Pink Heart Lily. I planted these lilies in two areas about 4 feet apart from one another about May 16. Both have lost their blooms and one is turning brown. Will they bloom again and is the brown one dead?

Answer By The Flower Expert: I think you have planted the plants with the flowers present on the plant. There might have been a transplanting shock.
They may not bloom again. The brown one is dead.
Mist the lily 1 to 2 times per week and give a good amount of water, though letting the plant dry out a bit in between watering.
Misting the plant, will keep the leaves from turning brown and possibly dropping off prematurely.

Old Rope Plant

Wed, 28 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Ruth Hendricks: I have an old Rope plant - about 37 years - was a very tiny plant with 1 leaf which I bought through a plant party it now reaches the floor several places - that I re hang up around the top only about 2 feet down.
My question - do you recommend feeding this plant ? The leaves have wound so much around the macrame holder that I see no way to change the dirt to new dirt ever - any suggestions of how to encourage more blossoms ? They are so beautiful. Right now I have 2 places blooming with no idea if I did - DO - anything special for them to bloom I do not water( with temped water ) very much or often - do you agree?
Over the years there have been yellow dead leaves that I take off - thus a few vacant spaces on the vine itself - but not too bad really - do you know the reason? Did it need more water then?
I do keep it in a south window but not into a lot of direct sun your thought? I do not remove the faded blossoms - they just drop. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Answer By The Flower Expert: It is also called as The Hindu Rope plant.
The plant should be fertilized only during the spring and summer months every alternate months.
Usually it should be with formulation of (10-10-10 or 12-12-12) diluted to ½ the strength is recommended. That itself gives more blooms during the flowering period.

Growing Shrubs,Hedges And Evergreens

Wed, 28 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Guest: I am having a problem wit several varieties of flowers growing in an area where shrubs, hedges and evergreens are thriving which seems to indicate lack of soil problemsi The flowers are Missouri primrose ,Azalias and Blue buttercups.

Answer By The Flower Expert: Use peat moss for azaleas, to make the soil acidic.
Buttercups need 5.5-8.0 ph of soil.
Missouri Primrose is a tough, drought tolerant plant which need only little maintenance in any well drained soil.
See that the plants are recieving this amount in soil and act accordingly.

Jasmine Traveling Vine

Mon, 26 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Caroline: I have a jasmine traveling vine and I was wondering if I cut it back and put cut limbs in water will they start to take route?

Answer By The Flower Expert: I dont think they will take root in water. They do not like waterlogged roots. Its a tropical vine. It reproduces from cuttings in the soil. The best method is in a greenhouse, sunroom, or cold frame with temperatures warmer than 40 degrees, but cooler than 70 degrees F. Jasmines are best started from mature plants by cuttings in early spring or early fall.

Small Slimy Wet Things Are On The Leaves Of Lillies

Mon, 26 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By C.Johnson: Please could you tell me what the small slimy wet things are on the leaves of our lilies. My husband did remove a red lily beetle a couple of weeks ago but haven't seen anymore since. These are queer looking things, you would think the leaves had been splattered with wet soil.

Answer By The Flower Expert: Slimy things are slugs on your plant. They are fleshy, slimy things that feed mainly at night.
They feed leaves, stems, flowers, and roots. Their presence can be identified by holes in the leaves or just scar the leaf surface and silvery slime trails.

Mary Golds Leaves Are Wilting

Fri, 16 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Anita Stoner: I have never planted morning glory before and I planted some already started on some bamboo poles and they are getting limp and leaves are wilting?.wondering if I am over watering them. They have all day sun and I have been watering them probably 2 times a day.

Answer By The Flower Expert: You are for sure, over watering the Mary Golds.
Morning glories like full sun. They do not like much water.
Probably your morning glory had been over watered, which is shown by yellow leaves and wilting.
Give water when you feel the soil is dry.

Jasmine Flowers Are Turning Brown

Fri, 16 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Chez: Recently potted a 4ft climbing Jasmine along with placing a trellis behind the pot so the vine can climb. I read that this plant should not dry out, so I've been watering every 3-4 days. It's been about a week and a half since I potted the jasmine and I noticed today quite a few of the white flowers are turning brown already. I thought the tiny white flowers would last longer so I'm wondering if I need to water more? The plant sits underneath a patio overhang so it does not get direct sun, except for very late in the day. After 6-6:30 till the sun goes down.Wondering why so many of the flowers are turning brown?

Answer By The Flower Expert: Jasmine plants need part Sun to Full Sun.

Jasmine plants like about 1 inch of water per week.

Probably it is getting less amount of sunlight and more water.

Planted Morning Glories In Morning Sun Locations

Wed, 14 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Janice: I've planted morning glories, already started in pots from garden center, in morning sun locations. The leaves wilt after being exposed to sun for short period so I now shelter them with beach umbrella. Once in the shade they perk up. Should I move to shade spot or allow root system to grow more?

Answer By The Flower Expert: Actually MG's need full sun, but as you are saying that they are unable to tolerate the sun, keep them in the place where it gets some filtered sun for a couple of days and observe.

Water Rroses, They Droop

Wed, 14 Jul 2010 05:00:00 GMT

By Dottielea: Why everytime I water my roses, they droop. I have added miracle grow to my soil, which also has nutrients. What are they missing?

Answer By The Flower Expert: It is the best to use Miracle grow for knock out roses. But in the during summer using something like Miracle Grow can kill roses, especially if they aren't getting enough water. It is better to use only organic fertilizer or time-release granules during the summer time.
Knock out roses need enough nutrients, or water.
Try to water the plant deeply a day before you intend to apply fertilizers. Avoid fertilizing on a hot day as it tends to burn up the plant especially if the conditions are dry.
